Canada will be participating in the 2005 World Championships in
Kazan, Russia from January 29 to Feb. 6/2005.


CANADA CAPTURES SECOND AT WORLD BANDY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Canada captured second spot at the World Bandy Championships "B" group being played in Kazan, Russia. They defeated Holland be a score of 12- 3 in the
2nd place final. Last year the Canadians were the bronze medallists. The Canadian team narrowly missed out winning the title after losing a heartbreaker to Belarus in the "B" group final. The score was tied at 4 after regulation time and Canada ended up losing 3-2 in the shootout.

Belarus then went out to play USA in the relegation round that sees the "B" group winner play the 6th place team in the "A" group. Belarus defeated the winless USA team, by a score of 6 -3. USA moves down to "B" group next year in Stockholm for the 2006 Championships.

BANDY BITS ....... The Opening Ceremonies saw a crowd of about 10,000 take in the festivities. Jason Neufled and Brian Davis represented Canada in the Ceremony. Brandon Ellement and Jon Knight will represent Canada in the Closing.....

......former Hockey great of the 1972 Russian- Canada Hockey Summit Vyacheslov Fetisov is now head of the Federal agency for physical culture and sport in Russia. He participated in the official functions and when informed that Team Canada was from Winnipeg, sported a big grin and said "Winterpeg?"..He was also aware of the new arena built in Winnipeg and expressed hope that it would be big enough get an NHL team back to the city.

Team Canada returns to Winnipeg on Monday evening.

CANADA LOSES SQUEAKER IN CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
Canada lost to Belarus in a shootout 3-2 in the championship final of the World Bandy Championships, B Pool, being held in Kazan Russia. The scorers were Sam Martin, Jon Knight, Brandon Ellement, and Costa Cholakis.

Costa scored with just seconds remaining in the game to the put the game into a shootout. Goal tender Ronnie Lintick was super throughout the game..

Kelly Morris stated " a hard fought battle, tough to swallow, made all hearts of the Canadians disappointed from all their practices in -40c and travel. This was the game we all wanted and needed to win. We have our heads held high and our hearts as we go on to the sliver medal match hoping for a win. Team Canada will now play Holland in the Silver Medal match as the loser of the Final must still playoff for second and third spot. Canada finished in 3rd spot at last years championship in Budapest.

Belarus will now play USA to see who will qualify for the last remaining "A:" pool position. USA went winless in the A Pool.

Canada captures third straight at World Bandy Championships
Team Canada captured its third straight victory at the World Bandy Championships being held In Kazan Russia on Tuesday.. The Canadians dominated Eastonia by a score of 18-0. This was Canada's highest goal output in history.

Brandon Ellement led the way with 5 goals , while Brian Davis added 3 along with Jon Knight. Costa Cholakis and Ryan Toothill had 2 each and Jason Neufled, Mark Priestly, and Pat Bolt scored singles.

The Canadians will now face Belarus on Friday in what will be the "B" pool Championship. The winner of this pool will then play the 6th place A pool team to determine advancement to A pool. Last year in Budapest, the Canadian squad came in 3rd.

"The ice has not been that good due to the cold, stated veteran Gennaroo Macchia, but we are certainly holding our own here. The level of competition is quite high and we are really looking forward to the match against Belarus".

Jason Neufeld added, " I am really pumped up right now- it feels good to have the 3 wins, but the real test is on Friday"

Canada is 2 -0 at the World Bandy Championshps being held in Kazan, Russia. The Canadians defeated Holland by a score of 8 - 1. Team Canada who was leading 3-0 at the half, was led by Costa Cholakis with 3 goals and Jon Knight and Brandon Ellement each chipping in two while Ryan Toothill added a single. On Sunday, Canada defeated Hungary 9 - 2.

Canada now faces Estonia on Tuesday


Canada Defeats Hungary at World Bandy Championships
Team Canada is undefeated as they completed their first game at the World Bandy Championships being held in Kazan /Russia.

The Canadians totally dominated the Hungarians by a score of 9 -2.

Ryan Toothill and Jon Knight led the way with 3 goals each, while singles were added by Sam Martin, Kelly Morris, and Carey Coubrough."It was a good opener for us" stated Jason Neufled, a second year veteran, "We played pretty well, especially with the cold and high winds"

Coach Goran Svennsson was happy with the performance although he felt that
the team must still work on their corners.

The next action for Canada is Monday against Holland
