The Winnipeg based, Canadian Men’s Bandy Team was defeated by the USA 9-6 in the A/B Qualification Match on Saturday, January 30 at the World Championships being held in Moscow.   After winning gold in the B Pool for the first time in Canada Bandy’s history, the Canadian squad played an excellent match, however the more experinced Americans were able to control the game.  Canada had 4 players playing on club teams in Sweden this year, and were a much imporved squad from previous years.

The Winnipeg based, Canadian Men’s Bandy Team will take on the USA in the A/B Qualification Match on Saturday, January 30 after winning gold in the B Pool for the first time in Canada Bandy’s history. 

The Winnipeg based, Canadian Men’s Bandy Team has gone undefeated in pool B play at the World Bandy Championships being played in Moscow closing out the round robin with 15-1 victory over Hungary.

The Canadian squad were led in scoring by Evegeny Opytov with 5 goals, Brandon Ellement with 3, Johnathon Brett and Mark Ralph with 2 each and Nick Mazurak, Costa Cholakis, and Brett Gavrailoff all posting one goal in the victory.

Canada’s next game will be Saturday January 30th, where they will take on the 6th place team from Pool A in the A/B Qualification Match.  Their opponent for that match will not be known until the completion of the round robin on Thursday.


The Winnipeg based, Canadian Men’s Bandy Team captured its’ first victory at the World Bandy Championships being played in Moscow with a resounding 15-2 victory over Latvia.

The Canadian squad, who led 6-1 at the half, were led in scoring by Evegeny Opytov with 5 goals,  Mark Ralph and Brandon Ellement with 3 each, Nick Mazurak with 2 and singles notched by Costa Cholakis and Brett Gavrailoff.

 Canada’s next game comes against Holland on Monday.
