Bandy World Championships: Ladies take to the ice
The Winnipeg based Canadian Ladies Bandy squad is in Sweden getting ready
to compete for the World Championships. The games, being held in Borlange,
will see Canada competing with Finland, Russia, Sweden, Norway, Hungary and
the USA. At the 2007 Championships held in Budapest, the Canadian squad
lost the bronze medal match in penalty strokes.
The Canadians open the Championships on Wednesday with an opening match
agaisnt defending World Champions Sweden and then later Wedensday take on
the powerful Russian squad. The team is made upo of Ringette players who
have been playing Bandy for 3 years now. The team is coached by veteran
Bandy player Gennaro Macchia of Winnipeg and Goran Svensson of Sweden.
