The Canadian Men's National Bandy Team defeated Hungary 10-0 to move to 3 and 0 at the 2008 Men's Bandy World Championships in Moscow. Canada plays in the B-Pool at the World Championships.

A third consecutive hat-trick has Brandon Ellement challenging for the scoring lead in the B-Pool. In addition to Ellement Canada received contributions from throughout their line-up. Halfback Jason Neufeld with two goals, forward Matt Lahaie with two and singles from Dan Kuchma, Brian Davis and Cam Sheldon completed the scoring. Goaltender Scott Chalmers was not required to face a single shot from the Hungarians, leading to the easiest shut-out of his new bandy career.

Canada's next action is at 9:00am Moscow time on Thursday Jan. 31 vs. Estonia.

If form holds, Friday will be the big day for Canada when they play two games against their toughest rivals in the B-Pool when they play Latvia in the morning and the U.S.A. in the evening. Canada has never defeated the U.S.A. and is very eager to change that statistic. All signs point to this game being the game of the tournament in the B-Pool. The winner of the B-Pool will play the lowest placed team in the A-Pool in a relegation match to decide who will play in the A-Pool next year.


Additional Notes:

1. Canada is in the "B" pool with Holland, USA, Mongolia, Estonia, Latvia and Hungary.
2. The "A" Pool is made up of Russia, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Kazakstan and Belarus.
3. Canada finished 2nd to the U.S.A. in the B-Pool World Championships in Stockholm in 2006.
4. Team Canada is based out of the Sturgeon Creek Community Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
5. Russia is a bandy power and, now, having won the rights to host the 2014 Winter Olympics, it is pushing hard to have bandy added as an official Winter Olympics sport.
