Canadian Ladies split with US

For immediate release: Winnipeg, Manitoba, February 9, 2009. Canada's
National Women's Bandy team played a two game series with the US National
Women's Bandy team in Roseville, Minnesota, February 7 & 8, 2009. The two
game series was played at the John Rose Oval in Roseville Minnesota, home to
the US National Bandy program. The two game series was scheduled when the
Women's World Championship was postponed for one year due to the global
financial slowdown, but will be resumed in Drammen, Norway in February,
2010.

The two game series was evenly played with the US winning game one 1-0, with
Canada responding the next day with a 2-1 victory. Goal scorers for Canada
were Shelly Hruska and Ainsley Ferguson, the latter coming off a corner
stroke with less that one minute remaining in the game. Since forming the
Canadian side, Canada has played the US National team 10 times over the past
4 years, including both world Championship games and exhibition series
games. At present Canada holds a slim 5-4-1 record over their rivals from
the US.

Team Canada Players in the recent series included: Sheena MacDonald; Andrea
Ferguson; Ainsley Ferguson; Courtney Burns; Amy Clarkson; Caley Miskimmin;
Lindsay Myseniuk; Shelly Hruska; Christine Delisle; Michelle Stachniak;
Carrie Nash and Ashley Lutz. Coach: Costa Cholakis. Team Leaders: Jan Burns
& Colin Ferguson.

"Any time we get the opportunity to play international matches, Team Canada
consistently improves. Unlike our counterparts in the US who play in a
competitive league throughout the season, the Canadian women only practice,
occasionally playing the Canadian Men's Bandy team who are also located in
Winnipeg, both playing out of Sturgeon Creek Community Club," said Costa
Cholakis, Coach. "More international play will only see this team get
better," added Cholakis.

Next year the Canadian women are scheduled to play in the World
Championships in Drammen, Norway in February, 2010. Team Canada has been
competitive in international play finishing as high as fourth in the 2007
World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
